Welcome to Alexander in Images, a new feature of Alexander the Great on the Web. I hope you enjoy your stay.

This site contains thumbnails of some 200 images available on the web. Clicking on the thumbnail will take you to the image itself. To the right of each image I have included some information about the site containing the image (with a link), a description of the image and notes on its size and quality.

In assigning images to categories and subcategories I have been guided as much by a concern for size constraints as by principles of cataloguing. The categories are internally ordered according to the sequence I entered the images. This allows the files to load in vertical sequence without forcing me to rename hundreds of files.

Please note that no original scholarship has gone into my descriptions. Quotes indicate the description has been lifted from the containing site; their absence marks my own, rapid identification. I hold no brief for other's errors, and beg pardon for my own. I believe the size of the effort justifies a few mistakes.

I can be reached at spalding@umich.edu. As always, submissions, comments and corrections are welcome. Special thanks to the many individuals who've lent me advice and moral support in my internet endeavors, especially Waldemar Heckel, Konrad H. Kinzl, Jeanne Reames-Zimmerman and the indefatigable "Tre."

Sincerely,

Tim Spalding

Note about copyright. Web designers are notorious for using images without permission. I have made no effort to determine whether sites had rights or were otherwise within fair-use laws. Please note that this site contains nothing but thumbnails, which have little intrinsic value. If notified, I will gladly remove links to any offending images.
